11 days ago, before the playoffs got underway, we offered our free NBA playoffs betting preview. We concluded that the Suns were the best value to win it all - at odds of 7/2.
11 days later, with the Suns now at 4/1 with some books (snap it up NOW at Betfair.com) we are even more confident that this is the team to beat. More importantly, this is the wrong price for a dominant team. They should be 2/1, which means you can make money simply by betting them now, waiting a couple of weeks, and then hedging (laying off) for a substantial profit when they are 2/1 or shorter.
It's early days yet in the playoffs but based on what we've seen so far there is
one team that is a clear overlay in the betting for the championship - the Suns
are still priced up at 4/1, which is a bargain (those odds are currently
available on BetFair, but shop around as you could find even bigger odds at some
sportsbooks). They are the class of the West; have home-court advantage
throughout the playoffs; and match up very well against every team (with the
possible exception of the Rockets - but they should still beat them in 6 if they
have to face them). A lot can happen - for instance an injury of any kind to
Steve Nash would make this bet suddenly worthless - but that's why they call it
gambling, and 4 / 1 is a huge price.
