| NFL Preseason Picks - The Latest Updates
One runs the risk of looking like a fool when one lists NFL Picks prior to the Preseason exhibition games, and we reserve the right to update our pro football selections once the Summer dust has settled. Last season a popular "sleeper" team was the Falcons, led by the revolutionary QB style of Mike Vick. But one preseason game shattered everything, and those sleeper NFL Picks were ruined.
This season a lot of wiseguy speculation is concentrated on the Seahawks, the Falcons (again), and the Chiefs. Our NFL Picks have been updated as of August 4, giving us time to absorb the Williams fiasco in Miami as well as the QB shocker in Dallas. Betting on the futures markets in the world of NFL betting is far more perilous than in other sports, not only because the league has so much parity to begin with (a number of teams might make sudden spectacular improvement, like the Panthers last season) but also because injuries impact betting the NFL to a far greater extent than they do any other pro American sport.
Part 1: The AFC
AMERICAN CONFERENCE:
EAST:
1. Patriots - The addition of Dillon, defensive depth, and the smartest coach in the league ensures another Division crown.
2. Jets - Sleeper playoff potential abounds with a healthy QB and the division looking its weakest overall in years. Look for 9 or 10 season wins.
3. Dolphins - Will still win 7 or 8 games, and the coach will still be fired. A battle with the Bills for the wooden spoon.
4. Bills - Continue to build season around overrated RBs, hire inexperienced head coaches = another sub-par season.
SOUTH:
1. Colts - Tough to fault the offense, still have questions about the D in a division that is tougher than it might look.
2. Jaguars - Will blossom this season if Taylor stays healthy. Best young QB and impressive coaches.
3. Titans - On the decline now, and best form might be behind a one-man show in oft-unhealthy McNair.
4. Texans - Will still need one more year, probably, but this team will continue to improve. 7 or 8 wins possible.
NORTH:
1. Ravens - Elite RB, terrific head coach, and great D, all that remains is adequate QBing from Boller and another division title is theirs.
2. Bengals - Good talent around new QB should ensure more progress is made. One more year until the playoffs though.
3. Steelers - Questions at all key positions. Coach could well be on the chopping block early.
4. Browns - Destined to be a long and ugly season. Garcia no help here.
WEST:
1. Chiefs - Dominate a weak division with powerful offense. Defense must improve to go deeper into post-season.
2. Raiders - Will improve on last season, but is Gannon the man for the job? Good offensive coach addition, and free agents still have a season left in them. Sleeper playoff potential.
3. Broncos - Will miss Portis more than they think. Will wish Plummer was elsewhere.
4. Chargers - Weakest team in the NFL at the time of writing and unlikely to improve for a while.
Part 2: The NFC
NATIONAL CONFERENCE:
EAST:
1. Eagles - Impressive offseason signings, and this might be their year. Good value to win the dvision at least.
2. Redskins - Gibbs will re-energize dormant franchise. If the owner stays out of it this could finally be a playoff year.
3. Cowboys - Who will QB this team now that Carter is gone? And who will be the RB while we're thinking about it. No playoffs for Cowboys right now.
4. Giants - Will almost certainly finish last in this tough division. Learning year with plenty of punishment for new QB and bad O-Line.
SOUTH:
1. Falcons - The year of the Vick? Playoffs look in sight, but this is a very tough division to predict.
2. Panthers - Still have tremendous talent and should not fall off too badly from last year's heights. Great head coach at the helm.
3. Bucs - Gruden has the number of the Saints and Falcons, but does he have the talent to dial it in? Unlikely to get out of this division alive.
4. Saints - Seem destined to disappoint especially with the players at their disposal, but how can they overcome these 3 teams??
NORTH:
1. Vikings - Now equipped to make a concerted playoff run. Tougher D and same potent offense.
2. Packers - On the way down, but fortunate to play in weak division. own the Lions and Bears. Possible wild-card team.
3. Lions - Will frighten a number of teams this season, and could easily win 8 games. Must deal with Packers though.
4. Bears - Look fragile everywhere and destined for failure once more.
WEST:
1. Seahawks - Sleeper team for the Superbowl? Stranger things have happened, and if they stay healthy they have everything in place for a monster year.
2. Rams - Great young QB but an overrated coach and a suspect D.
3. 49ers - Terrible coach, little offensive talent, and a 6 win season not unlikely.
4. Cardinals - Will improve under Denny Green, but not right away. Need one more year at least.
