| NFL Picks - Preseason Power Rankings
Our preseason NFL Picks are a little different to what you might find on other sites. Because we are a sports handicapping service, we are primarily interested in finding those teams that are INCORRECTLY priced by the oddsmakers at this point. That means we're looking to pick overrated NFL teams and underrated NFL teams. A lot of people who bet on sports don't realize that finding losers is equally important to finding winners, and can in fact be more important. A bad team can stay under the radar far longer than a surprising team. A bad team might also win games but never cover the spread. Those are the best kind of bad teams to find and latch onto, because they can become the foundation for a number of NFL picks throughout a season. Pound those bad teams until the line catches up with them, and in the same manner bet thoser sleeper NFL picks that you're the first to spot. There is one every year (at least). Last season we won many NFL Picks thanks to the Panthers.
So, we're looking for weaknesses in the NFL futures market. Here is that market. The odds are provided by CanBet. We are only going to analyze teams with a legitimate shot at winning the Superbowl. We don't have the time to tell you how bad the Browns and the Lions will be, although there are likely to be a few sleeper teams that we don't mention (like the Ravens and the Vikings):
Patriots +800 - OVERRATED: It is very tough to repeat as Superbowl winners in this league, and while they have an excellent team (the addition of Dillon is a big upgrade) they are not a value price. They might be tough to handicap during the regular season, and we might well wait a couple of weeks before making their games TOP NFL Picks.
Eagles +900 - OVERRATED: Huge offseason acquisitions in the free agent market, and this is their best chance to take that extra step. But, they play in an ultra-competitive division that might soften them for postseason play. Contenders, but is this a smart price to take? No.
Seahawks +2200 - UNDERRATED: Like the additions they made, and this is a team waiting to explode into contention. Will win the NFC West and might have home-field advantage for some if not most of the playoffs. A big overlay at +2200. Our early NFL Pick to be the surprise team of 2004/05.
Colts +1100 - UNDERRATED: Made good improvement last year, and this is still the premiere Manning in the league. D is shaky still, but can take it to the next level. A good price right now. With their ability to score they can also cover a lot of spreads, making them good value as a TOP NFL Pick.
Cowboys +2300 - OVERRATED: Won't even make the playoffs coming out of this division. They're third best to start with and don't have the QB to win the Superbowl. We'd lay +2300 all day long for this team.
Falcons +2600 - UNDERRATED: This is going to be the year of the Vick. Expect him to have a huge impact on NFL Picks, especially now that they have switched to the West Coast offense. This is a very good price but remember that they are in an ultra-competitive division. They should make the playoffs and then one can lay off for a nice profit.
Chiefs +1500 - THE CORRECT LINE: The Chiefs are a lot of analysts' surprise NFL pick for the 04/05 season. They are a favorite sleeper pick because of their potent offense, but where is the D? it still does not exist, so how can they go all the way? This is the perfect price, because it cuts right down the middle. Any bigger and you'd have to bet them, any shorter and you wouldn't be tempted at all. We advise waiting awhile before betting the Chiefs.
